Archive Data

The (long-term) archiving of research data is not aimed at the further use of the research data by third parties, but at the technically secure storage of the developed data and the establishment of processes for accessing it. The rules of good scientific practice of Bielefeld University and the German Research Foundation (DFG) require research data to be stored for ten years.

The selection of suitable file formats, the transformation of data into non-proprietary formats, copy protection and migration barriers are among the challenges for long-term preservation. The Competence Centre for Research Data offers support to researchers at Bielefeld University in this regard.
